Koichi Sato

Graphic Designer (1944.8-2016.5)

“Painters are the ones who to get drawn into their world and their work. But we, designers, always have to observe ourselves and our work from a different point of view.”

Koichi was born in 1944 in Gunma, Japan. After Graduating from Tokyo University of the Arts GEIDAI in Visual Design major, he started working in the Advertisement department of Shiseido as a designer. However, he only worked there for 2 year and he started to work as a free Graphic Designer.

He was a member of Japan Graphic Design Association, AGI, Japanese Design Committee, Tokyo Art Directors Club, and Tokyo Type Directors Club. And also a professor at Tama University of Arts.

In the 1970s, when the Japanese people were all about the new tends and styles that came from the Western culture, he was the one to start exploring deeper in Japanese pop art.

He loved the Japanese culture and its art.
